In addition to my Feldenkrais Certification, I have completed studies with Chava Shelhav to specialize in working with infants and young children through the Feldenkrais Method.  Dr. Shelhav, one of Feldenkrais’ original 13 students, has named her work the Child’Space Method.  In my work with children, I draw upon the Feldenkrais and Child’Space Methods to best address the unique needs of each child.   I offer private sessions for children with neurological disorders, delays, or other concerns.  I also teach classes for parents and their babies which combine Child’Space Method and music.

Child’Space Method, firmly rooted in the theories of Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais, teaches parents hands-on techniques of touch and movement, to improve all aspects of development.  Child’Space offers direct guidance to caregivers, but above all it encourages them to observe and understand their baby’s needs more fully, so that they feel prepared to make informed choices as to what is best for their child.

Babies who experience Child’Space lessons, find ease in many positions, including tummy time, and an improved ability to self soothe.  Their movements become more coordinated, with less strained rolling, reaching, easier crawling, and more.  These changes in motor development are coupled to changes in psychosocial, and cognitive development as well.  Parents find that the improved understanding of their baby’s development gained in class leads to more self-confidence in their own parenting skills and their ability to assess their child’s needs.

“Because touch, more than any other sense, has such ready access to young babies’ brains, it offers perhaps the best possible opportunity, and one of the easiest, for molding their emotional and mental well-being.”  Lise Eliot, “What’s Going On In There? How the Brain and Mind Develop in the First Five Years of Life”
